Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ohms law GCSE Physics?
V = IR where V = potential difference (volts), I = current (amps), R = resistance (ohms). The current through an ohmic conductor is directly proportional to potential difference at constant temperature.
How do series and parallel circuits differ?
Series: same current throughout, voltages add up, resistances add up. Parallel: same voltage across branches, currents add up, total resistance is less than the smallest individual resistance.
What are IV characteristics GCSE?
Graphs of current vs voltage: Resistor = straight line through origin. Filament lamp = curve (resistance increases as it heats). Diode = only conducts in one direction.
What is the UK mains electricity?
UK mains: 230V, 50Hz AC. Live wire (brown) = 230V alternating. Neutral wire (blue) = 0V. Earth wire (green/yellow) = safety, 0V unless fault.
