Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between scalar and vector?

Scalars have magnitude only (speed, distance, mass, energy, time). Vectors have magnitude AND direction (velocity, displacement, force, acceleration, momentum).

What are Newtons three laws of motion?

1st law: Objects stay at rest or constant velocity unless acted on by a resultant force. 2nd law: F = ma. 3rd law: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

How do you find gradient from a graph GCSE?

Distance-time graph: gradient = speed. Velocity-time graph: gradient = acceleration, area under = distance. Use rise/run for gradient.

What factors affect stopping distance?

Thinking distance: speed, reaction time (affected by drugs, tiredness, distractions). Braking distance: speed, road conditions, tyre/brake condition, mass of vehicle.
