What diseases do I need to know for GCSE Biology?

You need to know: Measles (virus), HIV (virus), Tobacco mosaic virus, Salmonella (bacteria), Gonorrhoea (bacteria), Rose black spot (fungus), and Malaria (protist). Know how each spreads and can be prevented/treated.

How do vaccines work GCSE Biology?

Vaccines contain dead or inactive pathogens that stimulate white blood cells to produce antibodies. Memory cells remain so if the real pathogen enters, antibodies are produced quickly before you become ill.

What is the difference between antibiotics and painkillers?

Antibiotics kill bacteria or prevent their reproduction but do NOT work on viruses. Painkillers only treat symptoms and do not kill pathogens. This is a very common exam question!

Are monoclonal antibodies Triple Science only?

Yes, monoclonal antibodies are Triple Science only content. Combined Science students do not need to learn this topic.
