Frequently Asked Questions
What is the photosynthesis equation for GCSE?
Word equation: carbon dioxide + water → glucose + oxygen. Symbol equation: 6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂. You need to know both!
What are the limiting factors of photosynthesis?
The three limiting factors are: light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration, and temperature. Graphs showing rate of photosynthesis vs these factors are very common in exams.
What is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration?
Aerobic respiration uses oxygen and produces CO₂, water, and lots of ATP. Anaerobic respiration occurs without oxygen, produces lactic acid (in animals) or ethanol + CO₂ (in plants/yeast), and releases much less energy.
What is oxygen debt GCSE Biology?
After anaerobic respiration during exercise, lactic acid builds up in muscles. Oxygen debt is the extra oxygen needed after exercise to break down lactic acid. This is why you keep breathing heavily after exercise stops.
